Dr. Valencia is a former primary school teacher who now researches and consults on policy-level literacy education issues, including teacher development and assessment. A contributor to numerous literacy and language arts journals, she also chaired the IRA assessment committee. In 2008, she was inducted into the International Reading Association Reading Hall of Fame.
