Shawn Young, has a background in education, technology development and entrepreneurship. He co-founded and led Classcraft, an innovative system designed to increase student engagement through gamification in the classroom. His approach blended educational principles with technology, effectively gaining the attention of educators globally. During his tenure as CEO, Shawn successfully navigated multiple rounds of venture capital funding, supporting Classcraft's growth and development.
After years of building Classcraft into a recognized name in educational technology, the company was acquired by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (HMH). In his new role at HMH as Vice President, Product Management and Strategy for the Core Digital Classroom Experience, Shawn focuses on integrating Classcraft's engagement-centric approach with HMH's educational resources. This role involves the development of HMH Classcraft, aiming to enhance instructional methodologies and learning outcomes.
Shawn's educational journey began as an 11th-grade physics teacher; he holds a bachelor's in physics and a master's in education from Université de Sherbrooke. His involvement extends beyond his professional responsibilities, as he has contributed to various educational advisory boards, including UNESCO’s MGIEP, Future Ready Schools New Jersey, and SETDA. Shawn is the President of Edteq and the Vice President of École Branchée. Shawn is also an advocate for creating engaging, community-focused learning environments and supports educational development as an ambassador for the University of Sherbrooke's Education faculty.
