Michelle Headshot 002

Michelle Smith

Professional Services Consultant, HMH

Michelle has 12 years of experience as a public school classroom teacher, including five years of teaching READ 180 before joining HMH to work alongside teachers who dedicate their teaching to support intervention students. Her passion for working with striving readers comes from her own personal journey of needing extra support in reading as an elementary student. As a former READ 180 teacher, she recalls the smile on her students’ faces when they saw they truly could improve their reading level and their joy when they read and passed a book quiz! For some of her students, this was the first time they experienced that success. She also has served as a district technology coach to assist teachers with the use of digital tools such as interactive whiteboards, document cameras, and others.

Michelle pursued her love of literacy by earning her master’s degree in reading literacy and becoming an ELA National Board Certified teacher. She is a Florida native and resides in Winter Haven, Florida, with her husband and two children. Weekends often consist of spending time with her family at Disney World and shopping.

What is student-centered coaching? To meet students’ individual needs, teachers may consider coaching that analyzes data and formulates student-centered goals.
