Dr. Michael Vea

Strategy and Instructional Support Officer, San Diego Unified School District

Dr. Michael Vea is a Strategy and Instructional Support Officer at San Diego Unified School District, co-leading the design of California’s first-of-its-kind prenatal-to-12th grade public Montessori School in the Logan Heights community of San Diego. He began his career in education in 2001 as a 5th grade teacher at P.S. 128 in New York City. In 2005, he co-founded KIPP Infinity Middle School in Harlem where he taught 5th Grade Nonfiction Studies and 7th Grade American History. After 14 years in the classroom, Michael joined LitLife PD as an education consultant, working with school districts in California, Missouri, and New York to improve equitable literacy outcomes for students.

A son of Filipino immigrants, Michael is also committed to expanding educational opportunities for children in the Philippines. In 2012, he served as the Co-Director of U.S. Strategy & Recruitment of Teach for the Philippines. Michael holds a Doctorate of Education Leadership from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, an M.S. in Teaching from Pace University, and a B.S. in Education & Social Policy from Northwestern University.
