Help children in Grade 2 build an understanding of addition, subtraction, number sense, and place value with these animal-based activities. Using stories to teach math is a fun way for children to learn math vocabulary, and both of these activities are presented as engaging stories. Each activity can work as lesson plans that can span a full math period.
Materials:
- Each lesson has an answer sheet that provides guidance, a description of the key concept, and questions from the lesson. You or students can use this sheet to check answers.
- The student activity can be printed and completed by the student, or the student can write the answers on a separate document.
Activity 1: All about animals
This activity has students practicing addition and subtraction as well as how to write addition sentences, all while learning about different animals.
You can either print the student activity or view it on a device and have students write their work separately. Use the answer sheet to assist with the lesson. You can use the last page to extend the lesson and connect it to science.
Activity 2: Whales
These Whales activities allow your child to learn about number sense and place value.
Similar to Activity 1, you can either print this activity or have students write their work separately. Use the answer sheet to assist with the lesson. You can use the last page to extend the lesson and connect it to geography and social studies.
