A new paradigm in education. A new vision for our future.

The K–12 education paradigm is shifting. As an education community, we know it. We feel it. We have changed. We have seen the accelerated adoption of technology over the past few years as we navigated the pandemic, and we are acutely aware of the significant impact that the loss of in-person instruction has had on student learning. And it is from this vantage point that an ideal future state for K–12 learning comes into view—one that seamlessly integrates the very best of technology with the very best of in-class instruction and engagement to facilitate learning and elevate the potential of all of us.

Everything we do at HMH is in service of creating this reality and ensuring it thrives. Today we are unveiling a refreshed brand that reflects this vision and the organization we have become. At our core, we create learning solutions that grow alongside teachers, students, and districts, constantly flexing to meet their needs. Our integrated curriculum, assessment, and professional learning solutions use actionable insights informed by data to paint a full picture of every learner and recommend how to best support their needs.

Accelerating student growth

Just as there isn’t one kind of student, there isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach to education. Educators understand this premise and need an intuitive digital ecosystem that helps drive momentum, growth, and continuous learning for every student. Technology, when created and implemented with purpose, can provide educators with a deeper understanding of what moves each student forward, in turn accelerating learning.

This new paradigm also demands a more simplified classroom with technologies that streamline and elevate everyday interactions into everyday engagement. This means integrated tools that encompass the full breadth of high-quality classroom instruction, creating meaningful connections between assessment and curriculum, uncovering predictive and proactive insights and recommendations that further growth at the right starting point and pace for each student—right at the teacher’s fingertips. It means leveraging intelligent data to benchmark growth, identify needs, and support better decision making. It also means creating efficiencies for educators, freeing up time and resources normally spent on repetitive and time-consuming tasks so that they can engage more deeply with students.

Taken together, these elements will help us realize the true promise of differentiated instruction.

Redefining adaptive learning

For nearly 200 years, HMH has been at the forefront of education. We are a trusted organization with deep roots and an impactful legacy, and we are proud of this. But our work doesn’t stop there. We have continued to evolve, and we are excited to reintroduce ourselves and articulate who we are today and where we are going.

I believe HMH is uniquely positioned to help educators create student growth amidst this new education paradigm. We are redefining adaptive learning to equip educators with research-backed, data-driven solutions that allow them to personalize what resources to use with which students, and when. We flex to meet the holistic needs of all K–12 teachers and learners.  We offer the only end-to-end platform that integrates high-quality curriculum and instructional experiences across whole-class and targeted group instruction as well as personalized learning practice, and we offer an embedded capability for data-rich insights that promote actionable differentiated learning pathways.

The months and years ahead will provide new opportunities and challenges that will bring the potential to fuse the power of technology with the tried-and-true social gathering of the classroom, such as properly harnessing the power of generative AI to advance learning outcomes. At every step, we will listen to experiences of the K–12 education community as we iterate, build, and implement solutions designed to elevate this next generation of teaching and learning.

The path forward

Education challenges remain. As a country, we still struggle with equal access to education and educational resources. Our 2021–22 high school graduation rate sits at an uninspiring 79%, and in the past decade, total college enrollment has dropped by close to 7.4%.

As a community, we have the know-how to create solutions that provide superior classroom experiences and have lasting impact. We can help students and educators maximize their time and talents. We can make a difference.

HMH is committed to leading this innovation—armed with the lessons of the past and prepared for the future. Together with our education partners and policymakers, we can have a profound impact on student outcomes.

Together, we can define this new paradigm of education and learning.
