Houghton Mifflin Harcourt's HMH FuseTM: Algebra 1 App for iPad Wins Association of Educational Publishers Distinguished Achievement Award

BOSTON — Global education leader Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (HMH) is pleased to announce that the HMH Fuse™: Algebra 1 App has received a Distinguished Achievement Award (DAA) from the Association of Educational Publishers (AEP).    Designed to recognize the highest standard for quality, professional educational resources and excellence in education marketing, the AEP annual awards program and its seal of excellence are widely recognized by educators, administrators and parents as a mark of outstanding educational value. Out of more than 800 DAA entries, the HMH Fuse: Algebra 1 App was the selected winner for the Mobile Device Application award in the Technology category.

“We’re thrilled that the HMH Fuse™: Algebra 1 App won a Distinguished Achievement Award from AEP,” said Mike Lavelle, President of HMH. “Our app’s interactive format takes students to the cutting edge of innovative 21st century instruction.  HMH Fuse represents the next era of digital education and we are proud that it has received this honor.”
The DAAs are judged according to category (Curriculum, Periodicals, Professional Development and Technology), subject area and grade level, with the HMH Fuse™: Algebra 1 App’s MathMotion function winning in the Technology, Mobile Device Application Category. Entries were evaluated on traits such as efficacy, usability, and overall educational value.

A first for K-12 education, the app gives users access to the award-winning Holt McDougal Algebra 1 core curriculum enhanced with the interactive capabilities today’s students demand.  This revolutionary mobile platform combines direct instruction, ongoing support, assessment, and intervention—enabling teachers to personalize instruction for each and every student.

The MathMotion feature of the HMH Fuse™: Algebra 1 App provides users with step by step interactive problem-solving demonstrations for all example questions throughout each chapter. The “swipe to reveal” function allows users to reveal the step by step demonstration with a swipe of a finger, making it easy to access and user friendly.

The HMH Fuse™: Algebra 1 App is now available on iTunes for $59.99.

As part of its digital strategy, HMH is also poised to release Geometry and Algebra 2 apps for summer 2011 availability and is optimizing its major K-12 titles for use across a multitude of digital devices.
