NEW YORK – HMH announced today that John Joseph Adams will become Editor at Large to curate a list of science fiction and fantasy titles, to be published as John Joseph Adams Books/HMH. The first three titles in the line will be simultaneous hardcover and paperback editions of Hugh Howey’s SHIFT, DUST, and BEACON 23, to be released in February.
Bruce Nichols, S.V.P. and Publisher at HMH, commented, “Science fiction and fantasy have been among the most exciting and creative literary genres in recent years. This fall, we added the first-ever BEST AMERICAN SCIENCE FICTION AND FANTASY to our Best American series. After working with John as the series editor for that volume, we realized he is the perfect person to help us curate a focused, high-quality fiction list. We are thrilled to launch John’s line with Hugh Howey, and we look forward to many more authors to come.”
John Joseph Adams added, “Science fiction and fantasy literature is experiencing a golden age; there’s more high-quality genre literature being written now than ever before. Thus far I’ve devoted my entire career to publishing genre short fiction, but I now look forward to applying that same level of curation to finding the best new novels and new authors.”
John Joseph Adams is the series editor of Best American Science Fiction & Fantasy, as well as many other anthologies, such as Wastelands, The Living Dead, and The Apocalypse Triptych. He is also the editor and publisher of the magazines Nightmare and the Hugo Award-winning Lightspeed, and is a producer for WIRED’s The Geek’s Guide to the Galaxy podcast.
